A CRIMINAL WANTS YOUR VOTE.

Don't give it to him.

After spending less than two years on the Caldwell City Council, John McGee announced that he was in the running to be the next mayor of Caldwell. We believe that Caldwell deserves better.

JOHN MCGEE IS UNFIT FOR PUBLIC OFFICE:
A RUNDOWN

"DISTURBING THE PEACE" OF A LEGISLATIVE INTERN

While serving as the Idaho Senate Majority Caucus Chairman, John McGee was investigated by Idaho State Police for aggravated battery (unlawful touching) and simple intimidation stemming from a sexual harassment incident. The victim, a legislative intern, reported that at the height of the weeks-long sexual harassment and assault, she was locked inside John McGee's legislative office at the Idaho State Capitol against her will; while there, John McGee propositioned her for sex multiple times, groped her, and masturbated in front of her. Immediately following the incident, McGee told the victim, "this never happened." The victim in the case reported the abuse and cooperated with ISP detectives during the course of the investigation. McGee, on the other hand, immediately resigned when given the opportunity to undergo an ethics investigation. He pleaded guilty to "disturbing the peace" of his female staffer and a probation violation stemming from his prior DUI conviction. He was subsequently sentenced to 88 days in jail. His victim received months of counseling after the incident and has asked the citizens of Caldwell to elect a better candidate, stating, "he does not deserve to represent the people." Despite telling the public that he has been "apologetic all the way" for his actions, John McGee has not yet apologized to the victim for the irreparable damage he caused. The 45-page police report is available in the link below. WARNING: Survivors of abuse may find this police report to be disturbing. This material is explicit and not suitable for children.

DUI & VEHICLE THEFT

During his tenure as an Idaho State Senator, John McGee stole and crashed a truck and trailer while under the influence of alcohol. Witnesses at the scene reported that after the crash occurred, John McGee exited the vehicle and approached their home before wandering the street. The homeowners then witnessed John McGee run back to the stolen vehicle and "jump in the backseat" when confronted, presumably in an attempt to avoid an inevitable DUI conviction. Upon arriving to the scene, police found John to be only partially clothed, incontinent of urine, unable to interact coherently, and claiming that he was not the driver of the stolen vehicle. He registered a 0.15 BAC, which is nearly twice the legal limit in Idaho. He incurred "thousands of dollars of damage" to the vehicle he stole and the property he crashed into. At the time of his DUI and grand theft auto arrest, John McGee was serving as the chairman of the Idaho Regional Substance Abuse Authority Legislative Committee.

TAXPAYER LIABILITY

John McGee has been the subject of multiple controversies surrounding the misuse of taxpayer funds. After winning her lawsuit against the State of Idaho for wrongful termination, former ITD Director Pam Lowe stated, "the board succumbed to political blackmail and pressure from John McGee," which resulted in her ouster. The wrongful termination stemming from alleged political blackmail by McGee cost Idaho taxpayers over $1.34 million. Additionally, McGee admitted to receiving legislative per diem funds despite the fact that he did not spend that money on lodging expenses; instead, he admitted to sleeping on his parents' couch in Boise and pocketing the per diem funds. We believe that in addition to the issues listed above, John McGee's pattern of criminal behavior puts the City of Caldwell at an increased risk for lawsuits.

POOR VOTING RECORD

John McGee claims to be a fiscally conservative politician who supports our first responders, but his numerous legislative and city council votes say otherwise. John McGee supported legislation to raise vehicle registration fees and fuel taxes while serving in the Idaho Senate. When presented with the opportunity to give the citizens of Caldwell a one-time property tax reduction in 2020, city councilman John McGee declined to provide relief for his financially-strapped neighbors. Additionally, John McGee voted to decline funds for first responder personnel (i.e., fire, police, and EMS) during the coronavirus pandemic; these funds would have been used to prevent furloughs, layoffs and public safety reductions during one of the most difficult times our first responders have ever faced.

LACK OF TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY TO CONSTITUENTS

While running for Caldwell City Council seat 6 in 2019, John McGee refused to participate in a citizen-led forum to answer questions posed by constituents. The leader of the forum never received an answer from John McGee when she asked whether he would be in attendance to interact with voters; his opponents all participated in the forum. Additionally, John McGee refused to participate in a mayoral forum hosted by the Idaho Statesman on October 6, 2021; he has made himself unavailable to answer questions once again during this very election season. If McGee refuses to listen to voters before he is elected, what makes you think he will value your input once he is serving as your mayor?

ABUSE OF POLITICAL POWER WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

John McGee committed all of the aforementioned crimes while acting as a representative for the citizens of District 10. His egregious behavior does not represent the citizens of this great city, nor the family values that we hold dear. Cheating, lying, stealing, destroying property, endangering the lives of others while driving under the influence, and sexually harassing young women are not family values. It is high time to kick corrupt politicians to the curb. Join us in our fight. Register to vote. Take your civic duty seriously. YOU have the power to ensure that the women and girls of Caldwell are safe when they decide to attend city council meetings, work at City Hall, or otherwise engage in the civic process in Caldwell. YOU have the power to elect someone who cares about the well-being of our neighbors. YOU have the power to elect someone who will listen to constituents and isn't afraid to face the public. YOU have the power to stop corrupt politicians from holding public office. Demand more from the people elected to represent you.
